Reflections from the RAPA 2024 Conference
The RAPA conference offers attendees opportunities to network, develop meaningful relationships with peers and clients, and share insights on current challenges and trends. The speakers addressed various engaging topics, including discovering hidden value in data, the impact of AI, advancements in life claims processing, digital transformation, and more.
However, don't just take my word for it. I asked several colleagues who attended the conference to share their perspectives and insights. Let’s hear what they have to say.
Kelly Priest - AVP, Business Development & Client Experience
If there was one takeaway from the RAPA conference that you would want to share, what would it be?
As a 20+ year member of RAPA, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with clients, colleagues, and industry peers across North America. The annual conference offers a unique opportunity to come together and exchange insights on industry changes, emerging trends in data management, audit practices, treaty compliance, annuities, and the growing influence of AI.
RAPA also provides valuable resources through educational webinars, whitepapers, and a collaborative community willing to share best practices and innovative ideas. One key takeaway from my experience on the RAPA planning committee is the incredible dedication of its members to delivering a conference that truly benefits its attendees.
Charles Gordon - Director, Client Experience
Were there any challenges or concerns in the industry that were commonly addressed by attendees?
Yes, many sessions addressed pressing challenges facing our industry. One standout was the interactive session led by Jon Tinker and TAI, where attendees were divided into teams to tackle “thorny issues.” These scenarios reflected common challenges faced by administration teams, and it was enlightening to hear how different companies approach them.
Other notable sessions included Marjorie Bridges’ discussion on the Enneagram and Cecelia Edwards’ insights on AI’s transformative impact on reinsurance administration. Peter Schaefer’s presentation was also exceptional. Each session provided practical takeaways and fresh perspectives for addressing today’s complex industry dynamics.
What resources or tools were recommended at the conference that could be useful for us?
Two resources stood out:
AI Integration: Cecelia Edwards highlighted how AI is reshaping reinsurance. At TAI, we’ve incorporated AI into our TAI Treaty Tool, which allows users to efficiently search, analyze, and test treaty language within a structured database.
The Enneagram: Marjorie Bridges’ session on this personality tool demonstrated how it can help leaders understand team dynamics, improve communication, and foster more effective management.

Did you network with any new industry professionals?
Absolutely. RAPA brought together a diverse group of professionals, from consultants to actuaries, spanning various industry sectors. It was rewarding to connect with new faces while reconnecting with familiar ones.
How do you think those connections could benefit our organization?
These connections enrich not only my professional growth but also TAI as a whole. Through conversations during seminars and networking activities, we gained valuable insights into common challenges and shared experiences across the industry. These connections help us better understand our client’s needs and enhance our ability to innovate and adapt.
Were there any specific sessions or speakers that stood out to you? Why?
It’s tough to choose just one. Each session offered unique insights that I’ve already applied in my day-to-day work. From claims processing to AI, every topic addresses the challenges we all face as the industry evolves. The speakers provided actionable strategies and new perspectives to tackle these hurdles effectively.
